This piece is inspired by the psychology of Galgame, a type of role-playing game which simulates romantic experiences, usually targeting male consumers. Galgame drives male players to interact with multiple female characters, developing different storylines and scenarios according to the player’s decision making. Each time a button is pressed/clicked, it signals the action of narcissistic male gaze. On one level, Galgame renders girls as sexualized objects; On another level, players willingly succumb to imaginary girls in their own fantasies. For them, simulated girls are not mere substitutes for actual partners, they are masters of infantile desire. In this murky territory, girls wield the power to confront and reciprocate the male gaze.
